Adriana Gil-Wilkerson, Ph.D.,
LMFT- Supervisor
therapist, supervisor, and consultant
I have been a therapist in Houston since 2006, my career has taken me to places I could not have imagined including training at one of the original family therapy organizations right here in Houston, the Houston Galveston Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. At HGI, I learned how to work with clients from as many diverse backgrounds as our city has. My style of therapy is consistently flexible and adapting to the ways in which my clients like and want to be supported. I learned the therapeutic philosophy of Collaborative-Dialogic Practice, as developed and evolved by Dr. Harlene Anderson, Dr. Sue Levin, and many of their colleagues who became mentors to me in my years of development as a therapist, trainer, and supervisor. As a learner at HGI I found wonderful and inspiring experiences that inform how I practice and how I live. My clients are people who want to make changes in their lives and sometimes need support making a shift towards a different direction. In therapy, we will spend time getting to know each other so that we can work together to come up with creative ways to address the situations that are not working for you.
I was trained to think of therapy as a relational experience where both the therapist and client contribute to the outcome. My role as your therapist will be to facilitate the conversations and dialogues about your situation in ways that may inspire change. This may look different for each client because I believe each person entering therapy is unique and has different points of reference and experiences. While having conversations, we can negotiate topics, limits, ideas, and how broadly you would like to examine your experiences.
My hope is that together, we will co-create the spaces that make sense for you.
